Bang Residence - Raglan
This home was designed for an elevated site with great views but in an"extra high" wind zone. The brief was to design a simple but modern, Scandinavian inspired, energy efficient double storey home with attached auxiliary dwelling.
It had to be sustainable, versatile, practical and comfortable but also capture the fantastic views of the Tasman see and Mt. Karioi and the Raglan inner harbor while providing indoor-outdoor flow and shelter from the prevailing westerly winds.
The west gables are pointing toward the Tasman Sea, framing these great views. A large atrium above the living adds height and drama to the space. All eaves are carefully considered to provide shading in the summer months but allow the lower winter sun to stream in and heat up the fully insulated polished concrete floors. Wall and roof insulation values have been tripled compared to the NZBC. Highly insulated triple glazed, wooden joinery with a maintenance free aluminium outer cladding has been imported from Germany. The building is collecting rainwater which is stored in two buried 25000ltr. concrete tanks, grey water is diverted off and irrigates the garden.
